How do you measure the worth of a life? Jim Shooter changed mine, for the better. I met him in 1983 and he encouraged me, mentored me, supported me, and employed me for over 40 years. He has improved the lives of many people more significant than I am, but I doubt he has transformed anyone’s life so completely. I am beyond grateful to him. The loss of his knowledge and experience is a severe blow and a loss to the world. -JayJay Jackson

I only met Jim briefly, twice, but I enjoyed many of his stories – especially the early issues of STAR BRAND, and I enjoyed this website/blog quite a bit.

Jim’s passing made me profoundly sad. I’ve read the blog in its entirety a few times over the years, just to savor the insights and wisdom he had to share about this complicated and wonderful medium. I’m so sorry, JJ.

My condolences Jayjay, really liked Jim, both his work and his public peronality. I can just imagine what his privite personality could be like. I followed this blog with a passion when he started it, and was really disappointed when he stopped writing, though I could of course understand him. All my friends I talked about him in recent days had nothing but great respect for him.

JayJay, I met you and Jim in Glasgow in 1993. I was 15 years old, had an art portfolio, and kept it resolutely shut for the entire time I was there seeing the quality of work floating about. I remember you patiently listening to a pitch from a young Rich Johnston (of Bleeding Cool fame, though long before his internet infamy), and Jim holding court – a majestic, charismatic larger than life character regaling us with tales of the issues of DC artists drawing Superman landing with one foot tucked under his back end, which seemed like a bugbear. You were both lovely, and it was a great time. My deepest condolences to you and to his family.

Jay Jay, you have been in my thoughts since the horrible news of Jim’s passing emerged, the love and friendship between you two ripples through the whole of this wonderful repository of knowledge that you created together. Sending you lots of love, Penelope Muddlepud! ♥️
